Yesterday Kenny and I decided to ride up a mountain. We took GMR. It leads all the way to Mount Baldy. We started way too late AGAIN and we only made it to the top of the mountain before it was getting dark. Next week we will ride to Baldy. There were a couple areas we passed with ice on the side of the road, kind of strange. The road was better kept than most streets in Santa Ana, no potholes or cracks. Only 2 cars passed us on the way up. I love empty back roads. Ready to go.
Up that way?
Nice riding shoes.
Leave time?
Oops. We almost rode from the wrong spot. At green, but we needed to be at red.
Kenny broke his bike again.
Ok. Really! We are leaving this time.
Last stop before a mountain.
Some views.
We forgot the water bottles and almost had to turn around. Look what we found on the side of the road, still good and probably only thrown out this morning. DINNER!
AMAZING views!
Only YOU can prevent forest fires.
We got to the top late, so we had to turn right back around and get down the mountain before it got dark. We were getting on our bikes to head down and we saw a guy that looked like this. Just skateboarding down a mountain.
Finish time! Just in time for darkness.
The day before Thanksgiving, Kenny and I decided to ride our bikes 100 miles. It was the most amazing ride of my life! The map of our route...
The first 25 miles down the river path was directly into the Santana Winds. It was like trying to ride up a really tall mountain and never being able to see the end. My bike is ready to go.
Kenny had to make his bike look nice first.
Both bikes, ready to go!
The gear.
First stop, down the street to Mothers for some nutritional lunch and energy.
The plan was to leave by 10 at the latest. This was our actual leave time.
Many dead ends. This is one of them.(I only took one picture of our dead ends because they all tend to look the same.
We got pizza before we hit Corona.
We saw this sign and laughed. It turns out in Chino, their road signs don't lie. A few miles of rough roads sucks!
Dinner...
Halfwayish. It was getting dark already. We planned to be home by that time.
Kenny broke a spoke.
From the top of a hill in nowhere land.
Another of the many stop/meals we had.
Kennys bike compute was a little slow.
15 hours? 7 1/2 hours ride time, 7 1/2 hours stop time. Maybe we stopped too much...
Amazing ride, I wish I took more pictures. We planned to be home by sunset, but we almost made it home after sunrise. We stopped way too many times to count so that we could eat. I ate so much on this ride, I gained a few pounds. About midnight or so we ran into a closed road at the top of a hill. We ventured though and it was cool. Soon we will ride 100 miles again, but quicker.
